Grades will be calculated on a straight point basis. Projects will be based on a scale of 1 to points depending on the assignment or project. Daily work and participation grades will be based on completion of the Engineering Notebook and Portfolio. All students must maintain an Engineering Notebook and Portfolio to pass the class.
Pfeiffer Project Lead the Way courses are introductory courses in engineering. These courses have a weighted grade system. Algebra I and Geometry or concurrently enrolled in Geometry or has Instructors consent.
Grading Procedures and Scale: The student will receive 3 quarter credits for meeting PLTW requirements. Students will also be responsible for keeping an active daily engineering journal. Ever tried to design something new or draw up an idea you wanted to share with your friends and wondered how you could communicate your idea?
Or, have you wondered how someone designed that new MP3 player or sleek new phone? The major focus of the course is learning how to take an idea through a design process that will eventually be manufactured or produced.
As you learn about various aspects of engineering and engineering design, such as how engineers communicate through drawing, you will apply what you learn through various activities, projects, and problems. For example, after learning about the different techniques engineers use in determining how to design a product, you and your teacher will have the flexibility to explore the design and engineering processes to solve problems that are of interest to you.
The course covers the following:Technology Engineering / Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Courses Drafting Design I This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the fundamentals of drawing and an insight into the areas of architectural drawing. An overview of civil engineering and architecture emphasizing the inter-relationship and mutual dependence of both fields.
Students use state-of-the-art software to solve real world problems and apply knowledge to hands-on. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a not-for-profit organization that promotes engineering, technology and biomedical science courses for middle school and high school students.
RIT College Credit for Project Lead The Way courses is a discounted rate of $ and RIT awards three transcripted semester credits for each course the student qualifies and pays for.

Project Lead the Way to Train Educators in STEM Curriculum This summer, the University of South Carolina’s Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program will train more than educators to better teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) courses across the country.
The Project Lead the Way curriculum, including Principles of Engineering, focuses on making math and science relevant for students. The approach used is called APPB-learning (activities, projects, and problem-based learning).
